Slc34a1-CreERT2 mice were generated by gene editing technology through insertion of the Kozak-CreERT2-P2A gene expression cassette upstream of the start codon of the mouse Slc34a1 gene. In the absence of tamoxifen treatment, the CreERT2 recombinase is primarily localized in the cytoplasm; only upon tamoxifen administration can the CreERT2 recombinase enter the nucleus and exert its recombinase activity. When Slc34a1-CreERT2 mice are crossed with mice carrying loxP sites, the offspring are expected to undergo Cre recombinase-mediated recombination between loxP sites in renal proximal tubule epithelial cells and Slc34a1-positive cells after tamoxifen induction.
