In conclusion, while the essential biological functions of Smim15 are not yet clearly defined, the discovery of its presence within ROHs in llamas suggests it could be associated with traits related to adaptation or production in South American Camelids. Further research, potentially using gene knockout or conditional knockout mouse models, could help reveal its role in specific biological processes or disease conditions.
