Snhg20, short for Small nucleolar RNA host gene 20, is a long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) with a length >200 nucleotides. LncRNAs act as important factors in different tumors, and Snhg20 is frequently expressed in various cancers like hepatocellular carcinoma, ovarian cancer, colorectal cancer, and bladder cancer. It contributes to cancer development and progression through transcriptional or posttranscriptional modifications [1].

In laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC), Snhg20 is overexpressed and promotes cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. Knockdown of Snhg20 inhibits these processes, suggesting its oncogenic role in LSCC [2]. In hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), Snhg20 knockdown inhibits cell metastasis and accelerates apoptosis, indicating its contribution to HCC progression [3]. In glioma, Snhg20 is involved in the ZRANB2/SNHG20/FOXK1 axis which regulates vasculogenic mimicry formation. Knockdown of Snhg20 reduces the degradation of FOXK1 mRNA by SMD pathway and affects vasculogenic mimicry [4]. In ovarian cancer, Snhg20 promotes cell proliferation and invasion by sponging miR-217 [5].

In conclusion, Snhg20 is a vital lncRNA in multiple human cancers. Loss-of-function experiments in various cancer models, such as LSCC, HCC, glioma, and ovarian cancer, have revealed its oncogenic role in promoting cancer cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and inhibiting apoptosis. These findings emphasize the importance of Snhg20 as a potential therapeutic target in cancer treatment.
