In a study, gene-deficient mouse models were established using the CRISPR/Cas9 system. BC048671-deficient mice were among the 13 generated. Surprisingly, these gene-deficient mice exhibited normal fertility in natural breeding experiments, indicating that BC048671 is not essential for male fertility [1].
In conclusion, based on the KO mouse model research, BC048671, despite being enriched in male reproductive tissues, is dispensable for male fertility. This finding helps in the efficient allocation of research resources in male reproductive biology by preventing redundant efforts in generating knockout mice for genes without an apparent male-fertility-related phenotype [1].
