Ces2h-KO Mouse

Ces2h is a member of the carboxylesterase 2 (Ces2/CES2) family. In mice, this gene is involved in promoting ester hydrolysis. Its enhanced expression can evoke an unusual antioxidant response in hepatocytes, which is associated with lipid degradation processes in the liver, suggesting its importance in hepatic lipid metabolism [1].

A study found that repeated oral administrations of low-dose inorganic nanoparticles, like TiO₂, Au, and NaYF₄ nanoparticles, could promote Ces2h expression in male mice. This increase in Ces2h expression enhanced ester hydrolysis, leading to lipid degradation and alleviation of liver steatosis. This process was effective in treating fatty liver in both genetic and high-fat-diet obese mice without causing observed adverse effects [1].

In conclusion, Ces2h plays a crucial role in promoting antioxidant hepatic lipid metabolism. The findings from in vivo studies using mice models suggest that enhancing Ces2h expression through low-dose nanoparticle administration could be a promising treatment for specific hepatic metabolic disorders such as fatty liver [1].
