Il1b, also known as interleukin-1β, is a key cytokine in the inflammatory response pathway. It is essential for the host-response against pathogens, yet it can exacerbate damage during chronic diseases and acute tissue injury. Its secretion does not follow the conventional ER-Golgi route [2].
In PD-1 inhibitor-induced inflammatory arthritis (PD-1-IA), there is a predominant expansion of IL1Bhi myeloid cells with enhanced NLRP3 inflammasome activity, which might communicate with exhausted CD8+ T cells via certain axes, suggesting different cellular and molecular pathways compared to rheumatoid arthritis. IL1Bhi macrophages could be a therapeutic target in PD-1-IA [1]. Also, exposure to BaP/BPDE up-regulates lnc-HZ06-regulated IL1B, causing trophoblast cell dysfunctions and miscarriage [3].
In conclusion, Il1b plays a crucial role in the inflammatory response. Studies on PD-1-IA and miscarriage demonstrate its significance in specific disease conditions. Understanding Il1b function through these models may offer insights into treating related diseases.
